|abstract=The Wikimedia Foundation has deploying features to Wikimedia Commons since Spring 2019 as part of the development of the Structured Data on Commons project, that was funded by the Sloan Foundation in 2016. This major software change to Wikimedia Commons allows for users to describe files on Wikimedia commons with Wikidata-style statements, allowing for the potential of a number of long asked for features on commons, including multi-lingual equivalents to categories, simple APIs for sharing, retrieving and modifying metadata, and multilingual search. At the time of writing, nearly 2 millions files on Commons utilized some form of structured data on them, and we are beginning to see increased adoption.

In this session, I will introduce the core functionalities of the Structured Data on Commons software (including descriptions, adding statements to files, and search keywords in Commons Search) and will demonstrate emerging volunteer built tools that help you manipulate the data (ISA, AC/DC, and Magnus’s SDC tool, and others if they become available). The workshop is designed to be hands on, so will include a number of small actions that everyone can participate in.

Moreover, I will share a brief introduction to future of structured data on Wikimedia Commons and the anticipated applications and uses of the features.

{{WCNA 2019 Session Submission
|theme=Tech & Tools

|type=Workshop
|abstract=The Wikimedia Foundation has deploying features to Wikimedia Commons since Spring 2019 as part of the development of the Structured Data on Commons project, that was funded by the Sloan Foundation in 2016.

The sessions will look something like:
10 minute introduction to the
20-30 minute hands on introduction
30 minute hands on introduction to SDC tools
10 minute introduction to the future roadmap
;Abstract: Increasingly, volunteers and affiliates in the Wikimedia movement are approached by external organizations (GLAMs and other knowledge institutions) who want to collaborate in partnerships related to structured data: data donations to Wikidata, or (in the near future) structured data media uploads to Wikimedia Commons. In this session, we look together at a general workflow for such projects - typical steps and phases in their development, and general tips and insights for each step or phase.

Data and media uploads have similar (general) workflows:

*receiving a set of media/data;
*processing this media/data to make it ready for Commons or Wikidata;
*uploading the media/data;
*processing the media/data after upload;
*stimulating enrichment and improvement to the media/data after upload;
*stimulating re-use of the media/data after upload;
*evaluation and reporting after upload.

The Workshop will help participants understand the general approach to this work, and how the upcoming changes via Structured Data on Commons will change our work with uploads to and from Commons.

This sessions is based on sessions given at Wikimedia Conference Learning Days and [https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Structured_Data_and_Wikidata_partnerships_-_Wikimania_Learning_Days_2018.pdf Wikimania Learning Days] by my colleague Sandra Faucounnier.
;Abstract:

Wikidata has a growing influence on the Wikimedia community, shaping everything from Infoboxes, to multilingual campaigns, to citations and other parts of Wikimedia content. However, for those of us not familiar with Wikidata, or without a background in linked, structured open data, there a number of concepts and assumptions about Wikidata which might challenging or are not obvious, leading to questions like: "What is Wikidata? How does it work? How can I make an impact and start editing?"

This workshop will focus on helping Wikimedians who already have experience editing other Wikimedia projects, to figure out the basic skills needed to become engaged in the Wikidata. The Workshop will do a brief introduction to editing Wikidata, it community and practice, including answering the questions:
*What is Wikidata? What problems does it solve?
*How do you navigate a multilingual, editable data community?
*How does Wikidata structure itself? What do we mean by Q and P numbers?
*What ought to be in Wikidata?
*How do I edit Wikidata? When should I edit Wikidata?
*What are the simplest ways to get engaged?
*How, in theory, can I use Wikidata to contribute to Wikimedia projects?
*Where can I find more information and help for understanding Wikidata?

This workshop will cover more basic skills and not include:
* How to use the Wikidata Query Service and/or API -- there is another workshop, which will focus on retrieving and using the data created by volunteers in Wikidata: [[Submissions:2016/Wikidata_and_Query_Service_-_understanding_and_presenting_the_data]].
* How to do mass uploads of data from other free and open sources
* How to use campaigns to improve Wikidata
* How to embed Wikidata in other Wikimedia projects

Wikidata allows Wikimedia projects to share, exchange and truly internationalize and create multilingual impact between Wikimedia projects -- lets make sure we all know how it works!

Outreach throughout the Wikimedia community, frequently focuses on helping partners, understand and engage with our projects, so that they may share their knowledge with the world. Working with cultural heritage organizations that collect, preserve and share information about our collective culture are frequently the best partners because they share much the same values. These kinds of partnerships are called GLAM-Wiki partnerships.

The GLAM-Wiki Community has historically been about partnerships with '''G'''alleries, '''L'''ibraries, '''A'''rchives and '''M'''useums. These partnerships, frequently focus on several major project models: a) Editathons, b) Content Donations to Wikimedia Commons and c) Wikipedian in Residence positions where Wikipedians join the organization for a window of time, to help grow their ability to work on our projects. As the Strategist in GLAM-Wiki at the Wikimedia Foundation, part of my job is evaluating the projects created by different communities that improvise on those models, or help us expand. In this presentation, I will highlight how different communities throughout the world are changing the our relationships, and point at some of the project models that could feasibly be expanded in North America, including:
*Wikidata + GLAM (blog.wikimedia.org/2016/08/23/wikidata-glam/)
*Citizen/Crowdsourced digitization (https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Case_studies/Wikimedia_Argentina_Digitization_Project)
*Distributed campaigns (Europeana 280 project, TED Talks project)
*Library Network outreach (https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Case_studies/Catalonia%27s_Network_of_Public_Libraries)
*Others

The presentation is designed to introduce folks to the open ended opportunities around GLAM-Wiki, and partnerships and relationships with GLAMs. Furthermore, the focus is on connecting the kinds of outreach and project models that we work with in the United States community, within the broaders context of the international Wikimedia community.
The '''Wiki Culture Crawl''' is a pre-conference event dedicated to [[:en:Wikipedia:GLAM|GLAM]]-Wikipedia activities at [[w:Balboa Park (San Diego)|Balboa Park]], an historic San Diego hub that is home to more than 15 museums and cultural institutions. It is designed to be the largest one-day collaboration ever between Wikipedia contributors and the GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives, museums) community.
