Abstract
This experiential workshop, facilitated by Dr. Rubye Braye and Dr. Tiffany Yates, will explore the value of strengthening Wikipedia studies as a stimulating resource for the practitioner community. Participant discussions will target the features and benefits from the educator’s, researcher’s, and practitioner’s perspectives, regarding the importance of Wikipedia studies for applications in non profit, for profit, and government entities across communities. This facilitated workshop will focus on motivating and encouraging support from professors, faculty, and staff working in higher education and considering using Wikipedia.

As active educators, Braye and Yates have years of experience chairing doctoral research and providing corporate consulting. Today, they continue to inspire scholar-practitioner students and faculty by seeking to apply research within organizations and communities. In collecting and explaining the reasons for strengthening and using Wikipedia, they desire to explain why academics can bridge the gap between higher education and the Wikipedia community, awakening academics and practitioners to support the valuable uses of Wikipedia.

These are some of the questions we will explore: 1. Why might educators and researchers want to make academic and research findings available on Wikipedia for the practitioner community? 2. What makes Wikipedia a suitable resource for academic and research findings for use by the practitioner community? 3. What features must be shared on Wikipedia by the educators and researchers for the practitioner community? 4. What are the benefits of sharing academic and scholarly research findings on Wikipedia for the practitioner community?

You will learn reasons that may be used to succinctly explain why Wikipedia studies may be a suitable resource for use by practitioners. These reasons may be used to expand Wikipedia into higher education and the practitioner community
