What is your idea?

Provide an online course in Spanish to train journalists in disinformation campaigns with specific goals related to skills and tools needed to combat fake news. We are ready all the contents, presentations and material.

Why is it important?

Like researchers in disinformation campaigns we detect low skills and information in many jorunalists to spot and stop fake news. We are sure that the impact in jorunalists can acelerate the stop to fake news.

Is your project already in progress?

Yes. We develop several training sessions in presencial way. Like this: https://www.mundotkm.com/fakenews/2019/02/04/desinformacion-como-educar-jovenes-para-crear-usuarios-responsables/ Now we want move to online sessions.

How is it relevant to credibility and Wikipedia? (max 500 words)

We dont detect programs to train journalists in disinformation for Spanish Language. Also, the universities are slow to incorporate this topic and skills to study programs. We believe that this kind of proposals can be a fast impact in combat to disinformation.

What is the ultimate impact of this project?

- Stop fake news - Train journalists to Latin America in disinformation campaigns

Could it scale?

Yes, is easyly scalable. We think begin with local groups in Argentina and scale to the rest of countries of the region.

Why are you the people to do it?

We researches about disinformation since 2018. Are a team dedicated to thsi phenomenom in Latin America and two of our members are university teachers. Also we are experience training journalists since 2016. You can see part of this in www.datosconcepcion.com.ar/cursos.html

What is the impact of your idea on diversity and inclusiveness of the Wikimedia movement?

We think that the stop of fake news can contribute to improve tolerance levels and reduce the space for expression of racism and discrimination. My rol like women-leader in this proposal is important for our organization too.

What are the challenges associated with this project and how you will overcome them?

The challenges of this project are the same as the rest of the online training options: the constancy of the participants and the technical deficiencies that can interfere. We are confident that we can transmit our enthusiasm for the subject and the commitment that journalism has. The design of the classes takes into account light materials so as not to create problems in the online data transfer. In addition, it includes activity and offline readings,

How much money are you requesting?

USD 3200

How will you spend the money?

- We expect create a special section to virtual classroom in our site www.desconfio.org - We go to invest part of budget in promote the course. - Cover part of the incomes of trainers and special guests

How long will your project take?

With this grant we compromise to develop at least 3 courses this year. The course is designed for 4 weeks. We need others 4 weeks to prepare the environment. April-may: prepare enviroment June: course 1 August: course 2 October: course 3

Have you worked on projects for previous grants before?

Yes. We receive founds for research news in whatsapp / to develop a chatbot against fake news / to train journalists in Bolivia / to organize events about disinformation in Argentina (https://www.desconfio.org/evento-sobre-desinformacion-en-elecciones-2019/)
