Abstract
As we know, Wikipedia is the seventh largest website in the world, a massive contribution to the world's knowledge and information accessibility. The hundreds of language Wikipedias and the many other Wikimedia projects are by many metrics collectively one of the world's largest institutions, yet it is one that goes relatively unnoticed by journalists, except when a major controversy appears. In many ways, mainstream journalism has only scratched the surface of this community, leaving the job of documenting and explaining its workings to the community itself, which has developed a number of institutions and solo projects devoted to Wikimedia journalism. This panel will discuss the various approaches to community journalism and the advantages, challenges, and biases of each.
