Abstract:

AfroCROWD i.e. Afro Free Culture Crowdsourcing Wikimedia (AfroCROWD) is an outreach initiative and Wikimedia user group, which seeks to increase awareness of the Wikimedia and free knowledge, culture and software movements among potential editors of African descent. Since its launch during Black Wiki History Month in 2015, AfroCROWD has sensitized thousands in its target audience about free culture crowdsourcing and the need to close the multicultural and gender gaps in Wikipedia.

We have also held monthly multilingual editathons in partnership with cultural institutions, galleries, libraries, archives, museums (GLAM) and many others, and have expanded our work to include organizers in different parts of the United States and abroad. As a part of our outreach efforts we, produced a video tutorial series for organizers and anyone who wants to learn about Wikipedia. The videos are available online in English and now in Spanish. They cover a series of topics from how to edit Wikipedia to oral knowledge and editing in a different language.

We would like to introduce the videos and talk about how to collaborate with partners to train new editors.
