The Internet Archive continues a transformative mission: ensuring every reference on Wikipedia remains alive and accessible. This year, we've reached remarkable milestones in combating link rot, rescuing tens of millions of broken links and proactively archiving millions more to preserve essential information. Our vision is clear—a vibrant Wikipedia where every citation is a clickable, reliable gateway to the knowledge readers seek.
2025 brought exciting innovations that made significant progress possible. We’ve revolutionized automated link fixing, greatly reducing tedious manual tasks for Wikipedia editors and ensuring links stay active and reliable. Our newly unveiled Reference Explorer has transformed the citation analysis experience, giving editors and researchers intuitive tools to explore citation quality and identify areas needing attention. Moreover, our robust project-wide citations database is now close to providing real-time insights into citations across Wikipedia's vast content universe.
Highlighting the year was WikiCred 2025, hosted at the Internet Archive headquarters in February. This engaging event united global thought leaders, technology innovators, and the Wikimedia community in vibrant discussions and collaborative sessions aimed at tackling misinformation, enhancing citation integrity, and envisioning a healthier information ecosystem.
