Title:

Conversation with the Wikimedia Foundation trustees

Type of session:

Edit-a-thons or Workshops (30-120 min)

Session theme(s):

Future of Wikipedia

Abstract:

Tracking and leveraging global trends is critical to the future success of the Wikimedia projects. Our current technological, geopolitical, and social environment has changed drastically since Wikipedia's founding, and part of the work of the Wikimedia Foundation trustees revolves around tracking and leveraging these trends to increase Wikimedia's sustainability. Changes in the ways in which information is created, distributed and regulated, as well as changes in how people participate in online spaces, have a deep impact on the work we do every day.

The Wikimedia Foundation trustees want to discuss these trends with attendees of WikiConference North America--how they're showing up in our collective work, and how people are responding to them and preparing for what's next.

This session will be a discussion session. It will open with a brief overview from the trustees, and then move into breakout discussion on relevant topics. Topics will be finalized based on participant interest, but may include trust in and credibility of online information, AI, regulation, and trends in users with extended rights on Wikimedia projects.
