Title:

Digital Safety for Anonymous Wikipedia Editors

Type of session:

Lecture (15-30 min)

Session theme(s):

Future of Wikipedia

Abstract:

While some individuals choose to disclose their real-world identities when editing Wikipedia, many contribute anonymously. This approach is often taken to protect editors from potential risks such as harassment. The threat of doxxing anonymous Wikipedia editors has become increasingly prominent, underscoring the need for robust personal security measures to safeguard the anonymity and safety of Wikipedia editors.

This lecture will explore how pseudonymous online identities can sometimes be unintentionally linked to personal information, and will outline strategies anonymous editors can use to safeguard their anonymity.
