Title:

Peeragogy Handbook Editathon

Type of session:

Edit-a-thons or Workshops (30-120 min)

Session theme(s):

Future of Wikipedia

Abstract:

In my humble opinion Wikipedia is the greatest peer production and peer learning project in human history. Wikimedians from around the globe came together as volunteers to improve humanity's access to knowledge. One term to describe this type of effort is peeragogy. It is similar to pedagogy, but instead of a teaching theory is used to describe how peers learn and produce things together. The Wikimedians coming to this conference have so many lessons that can be shared with the world for how to succeed in their own projects. In this editathon they are invited to write them directly into the English Wikibook edition of the Peeragogy Handbook!

It would be great if we could also work on the versions in other languages!

You can read the third edition of the Handbook online as a PDF e-book and/or buy the print version on Amazon. The third edition has been recognized by researchers around the world as can be seen by the citations on Google Scholar.

Yes, we presented about peeragogy in 2015 at Wikimania in Mexico City, in 2019 at the Anticipation Conference (see Friday in the programme), and in 2021 online at the Connected Learning Summit (see page 15 of the schedule). We also had a poster for Wikimania 2024 in Singapore.

Special requests:

Thank you for all your hard work organizing the conference! There is a chance I will be able to make it to New York, but right now I cannot commit, so I'm submitting a remote presentation.
