Title:

Trust the messenger: Wikipedia and information integrity in the age of AI

Type of session:

Lunch Meetup

Session theme(s):

Future of Wikipedia

Abstract:

Wikipedia, and the other Wikimedia projects, have often been called "the ground truth of the internet" because of the role they play not only as separate platforms, but in the context of other platforms and the information ecosystem at large. This role is changing and, in a way, becoming even more important with the development of AI models, especially large language models. This session will be a conversation between the Wikimedia Foundation policy team, and participants, to dissect how the Foundation and Wikipedia can share with external audiences what Wikimedia projects mean for our shared reality and information environment, and how this role is evolving in the age of AI.
