Title:
- Understanding the Movement organizations paper and the Global Resource Distribution Committee (GRDC)
Type of session:
- Lecture (15-30 min)
Session theme(s):
- Future of Wikipedia
Abstract:
Session Description: Following the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees’ resolution on the Movement Charter, two key pilot initiatives were launched to address long-standing challenges around movement organizations and resource allocation within the Wikimedia Movement: the Movement Ecosystem paper and the Interim Global Resource Distribution Committee (GRDC). This session will introduce both pilots, share the current status of each, and outline next steps. We’ll present the final version of the Movement Ecosystem paper—its purpose, development process, and key conclusions. We’ll also introduce the GRDC, its goals and priorities, and use this opportunity to collect feedback from the community on this new global committee. Session Format:
- Overview of the Movement Ecosystem paper, main conclusions and next steps.
- Introduction to the Global Resource Distribution Committee (GRDC) and panel discussion
- Open Q&A and feedback collection from participants
- Next steps for both pilots
Expected Outcome:
Participants will leave with a clear understanding of the Movement Ecosystem paper and the GRDC. This session will also serve as a space for collecting feedback to help shape the GRDC’s priorities and ongoing work.
