Title:

Wikidata WikiProject GovDirectory for North America

Type of session:

Edit-a-thons or Workshops (30-120 min)

Session theme(s):

Missing pieces

Abstract:

Wikidata:WikiProject GovDirectory aims use Wikidata to create a global user-friendly directory of government agencies and their online presence. Sweden is an example of a country which is nearly complete. In contrast, editors in North America are just starting to index their countries' governments in Wikidata.

This workshop presents data for the government of the Bahamas and some parts of the United States to demonstrate the usefulness of making an open data government directory. Attendees will learn some applications of having access to such data, get an introduction to Wikidata editing basics, and be invited to add a government agency to Wikidata.

Anyone interested in organizing state-level or national government projects should join to meet others doing the same!
