Hi DGG-NYC , thanks for your submission. I would like to invite you to expand a little bit on your proposal. Could you summarize in a sentence or two what kind of findings/learnings you plan to present? And is this more about understanding the big picture, or about developing personal skills? Thanks, that would be helpful! Effeietsanders (talk) 04:37, 30 August 2018 (UTC) (reviewing some of the presentations)

My purpose is to explain how to recognize promotional editing, and how to try to guide editors to minimize it, especially new editors. I shall summarize the current status of the relevant rules, and if time permits, show examples. It is intended both to increase awareness of the nature of the problem, and to offer practical assistance. It is based upon my experience and the related experience of others. I will also try to explain why goof faith editors may write promotionally, and why in some fields promotional writing and promotional sources are quite difficult to avoid.

I do not intend to cover paid editing as such, or the rules about declaring Conflict of Interest, or the general principles of NPOV or Reliable Sources, or how to deal with determined promotional editors, or the general problems & justification of New Page Patrol or reviewing drafts. I shall assume as a starting point a common understanding that, as one of our key fundamental principles, promotion is not acceptable on Wikipedia.

DGG-NYC (talk) 17:29, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
