Bringing Public Domain images in online books into wiki projects

Abstract:

A treasure trove of Public Domain books, magazines, and newspapers are available for us to read. Many include photos that are ripe for upload into the wiki-universe. This session will describe workflows and best practices regarding how to:

  • PREPARATION
    • research/ find PD sources
    • compare multiple versions of the same source to determine which is better for uploading
    • crop images
  • WIKIMEDIA COMMONS
  • upload one or a batch of images
  • categories, rotation, renaming
  • WIKIDATA
    • add the newly-uploaded image to Wikidata
  • WIKIPEDIA
    • add the newly-uploaded image to Wikipedia
