Abstract

Sue proposed several reasons why women don't edit Wikipedia. We already collect enough information in Wikipedia to test many of these assertions, even though we do not formally ask people for their genders is reliable ways. I will present some ideas on how we might test these assertions, and I hope to get you thinking about creative ways of using Wikipedia's existing data to study complex issues like gender balance. Here are some further notes on my talk, though they're not very easy to read.
