Medical and pharmacy services available at WCNA 2024

If someone needs medical care during the conference:

Alert someone on the Friendly space team. They can alert other volunteers for help.

The university has a number for their Urgent health services: 317-779-0303. We haven't tested it out but probably they would have speedy advice about where to go for help.

There's a 24-hour emergency room at 16th and N. Senate. It's at the IU Health Methodist Hospital, at 1701 N Senate Blvd. This is a 6-minute drive from the main venue Hine Hall, or a 36-minute walk. That seems to be the closest 24-hour one.

IU Health University Hospital at 550 N University Blvd, 6 minutes walk from our main venue but it doesn't have an emergency room. It has an urgent care center that can take walk-ins until 8pm at least on weekdays. For phone inquiries there: 317.944.5000

The university runs an Urgent care center at 222 W. Michigan Ave, shown at right. That may be the right answer for some cases, but some things are awkward: (a) It's 10 minutes walk from the main conference venue; (b) its hours are 7am-7pm on Mon-Fri, and 9am-3pm on weekends; (b) There will usually be a long wait time, more than an hour; (c) They recognize most U.S. insurance coverage I believe, but if they do not recognize the patient's insurance coverage, they immediately charge a fee of $110 or similar. If you face this situation during the conference, just pay it, and alert conference organizers (specifically peter.meyer@wikidc.org) who intend to reimburse you in such a case.

For medicines, there is a pharmacy in the Kroger supermarket across the street from the urgent care center.
