WikiConference North America's 2017 Wiki Culture Crawl is a pre-conference event dedicated to collaborative and GLAM-Wikipedia activities in Montreal on Wednesday, August 9. The day's activities include visiting various cultural institutions in Montreal, with a focus on galleries, libraries, archives, museums, and monuments. The Crawl includes exclusive backstage tours of institutions, as well as a photo drive for participants to photograph Montreal's sites and collections. These activities also provide a unique opportunity for institutions and Wikimedians to work together to improve Wikipedia's coverage on certain topic areas.
Wikipedia is the world's most popular reference work, and has worked with numerous cultural partners to improve its content. Institutions such as the U.S. National Archives, the Smithsonian and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are among its many GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums) collaborators - and this Wiki Culture Crawl provides a great opportunity to foster and grow new relationships in Montreal.
Plans are currently being made with BAnQ (Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec / National Library and Archives of Québec), with more in the works. Stay tuned for more details!
