We need to make account creation captcha harder -- getting a small flood of spam accounts. Sj (talk) 23:53, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

I brought this up on the main page discussion today...not sure where the best venue is. -Pete Forsyth (talk) 05:14, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Problem creating user

Forgive me - Could you research this? I was working with someone and they tried to create an account on this wiki but it gave an error, which I can reproduce. Try "Create account", user test77, password test77a, and 2019 conference location Cambridge. It gave this:

[497a14c639244a9af95eae13] /index.php?title=Special:CreateAccount&returnto=2021/Main+Page Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError from line 1699 of /usr/share/mediawiki/includes/libs/rdbms/database/Database.php: A database query error has occurred. Did you forget to run your application's database schema updater after upgrading?

Thanks for all the details! Should be fixed now. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 08:54, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
Ah, good.

Empowerment

Are you empowered to delete pages? I would like to delete 2021/Submissions/fr-draft and 2021/Submissions/fr-temp -- Econterms (talk)

Done! I've also made you an administrator :) ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 05:57, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! -- Econterms (talk) 11:37, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

Form input request

We can live without this . . . but is there a way to prevent somebody from clicking "Create submission" on this page, before either (a) creating an account, or (b) filling in a title? https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2021/Submissions

We want them to get some kind of message, or get a place to fill in the title or something on the next screen. I put in a sort of message, for English only. If I see what you do I will try to fiddle with it for French or Spanish. -- Econterms (talk) 22:18, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Mark submissions as drafts?

How can a submitter save a submission but mark it as a draft, not ready to be evaluated? This one, for example, is a real submission still under development: Submissions:2021/Vaccine Safety Edit-a-thon. It would be easy to have a template marking a document as an unfinished draft, but I don't know how to have the submitted select it from the form-input. -- Econterms (talk) 15:13, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Like this, copied from wikidc.org: Template:SubmissionsStatus Can we mark drafts, submissions under consideration, and submissions which have been evaluated? Maybe a category for drafts not yet submitted would be enough. I'm brainstorming. -- 14:18, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Done! I added a question at the bottom of the submission form to let people select either Submit or Draft. Selecting draft will add Template:2021/Draft to the top of the page instead of Template:2021/Pending. Drafts will also be categorized in Category:Submissions/2021/Draft.
For accepting or declining, we can set the status to Accepted or Declined. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 10:19, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

wlm session

Hi SuperHamster,

do you think it would be helpful to hold a roundtable conversation about how to grow WLM in the US further? We had some good conversations before, but they always get stuck with finding volunteers. WCNA is a great opportunity for that.

I was thinking that we/you could introduce the competition (5-10 min) as a concept, and spend another 5 minutes on some broad opportunities for WLM in the US. Then we could move into conversation mode with other participants, and possibly split up in groups. I'm especially interested to see if we can learn a bit from the Italian model here, where there are several smaller groups that take up the challenge to organize local activities and collaborations around WLM in their area. Plenty of opportunity for that here! Effeietsanders (talk) 20:10, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

SuperHamster: ping! :) (and "nah, not interested" is a totally fine response!) Effeietsanders (talk) 05:39, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Hey there, sorry for the late response! You know how much I like to do things at the eleventh hour :) I've made a proposal here; part of my delay is that I've been thinking that I wouldn't be able to give it the time it deserves to be truly fruitful, but I think we can put something good together (especially if you'll be there to help!). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 08:20, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
Great :) Happy to help. The most important outcome is to start conversations, that can then continue after the session, but for that to be fruitful, the most important thing is that y'all are receptive to people helping out, joining the effort - so I'm glad you made the submission! Translate on 2022/Main_Page

Hi, I have started work on 2022/Main_Page & realized that I cannot enable translate on the page. Either you, Pharos, or Benoit Rochon needs to do this, or one of you needs to please add me to the translator group. Peaceray (talk) 19:45, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
