Title:
- Building a CEE Hub
Theme:
- Global & Local, Relationship Building & Support, Inclusion & Diversity
Type of session:
- Round Table
Abstract:
One of the more central recommendations of the 2030 movement strategy is the creation of regional hubs to "enable a common space for coordinating activities and identifying and advocating for the needs of the communities and organizations they serve" and "empower existing and future communities to have the capacity and resources to make and implement their own decisions to meet their differing needs". Since 2011, communities and chapters in the CEE region have been working on a regional collaboraton project, m:Wikimedia Central and Eastern Europe, which would be a natural precursor for such a hub, and some of the people involved have been working on making that transformation happen. What can we learn from that and what future opportunities does it hold?
The session consists of a presentation about the short history of WMCEE, the hub work so far, and similarities to and differences from the North American region. After that we hope to have a roundtable discussion on what the two regions can learn from each other and how they might cooperate in the future.
