Indiana Historical Society

Description

Join us at the Indiana Historical Society for a special presentation by Nicole Martinez-LeGrand, Multicultural Collections Curator and author of Hoosier Latinos: A Century of Struggle, Service, and Success. Discover the hidden stories of Indiana’s Latino heritage, including the Lost Barrio of Indianapolis, the state’s First Mexican Consulate, and the unexpected connections between Indiana and Latin America, such as Benjamin Harrison’s influence and the Viva Kennedy Campaign. Nicole’s engaging presentation will feature photos and audio recordings from her extensive research, offering a rare glimpse into the overlooked chapters of Hoosier history.

After the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the Indiana Historical Society exhibits, including a brand-new art installation by Justin Favela, created in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. This event is a perfect prelude to WikiConference North America, giving experienced Wikipedians across the continent a chance to dive deeper into Indiana’s rich Latino history.
