Title:

Newbies, patrollers, and educators

Theme:

Reliability of Information
+ Relationship Building & Support
+ Editor Recruitment & Retention

Type of session:

Round Table

Abstract:

Educators and event trainers have a short window of time to try to onboard newcomers and get them up to speed. Those curating the products of events have their own workflow. When the workflow of the two groups does not mesh, or is poorly understood, the result can be frustration on all sides.

This roundtable proposes to get together representatives from both groups to expand on their processes and find more effective ways to work together to retain new editors and give newcomers a positive impression of Wikipedia. The hoped-for outcome will be a checklist of best practices for educators.
