Title:

Wikidata SKBL

Name:

Magnus Sälgö

Wikimedia username:

salgo60

E-mail address:

salgo60@msn.com

Resume:

Svenskt kvinnobiografiskt lexikon SKBL see about-skbl

Is a dictionary of Swedish women that today deliver structured data and I have integrated with Wikidata. This is activity is that we should help them move direction Linked data. Today we have a Wikidata property Property:P4963 created 2018 march and we update this property see SKBLJupyter

Geographical impact:

Sweden mostly and women's history research

Type of project:

Research + Output

What is your idea?

Try to help the SKBL project move in direction Linked data and better use the possibilities of Wikidata and also help Women research get more visibility

Why is it important?

Today using strings instead of things dont scale and also women research needs more Linked data Authorities

Is your project already in progress?

The SKBL project is in phase 2 delivering more profiles. This part is to see if we can make them a better source for Wikidata and sources about female research

See in Swedish SKBL 2.0

How is it relevant to credibility and Wikipedia? (max 500 words)

As SKBL is done by the best researcher of female history in Sweden the quality of sources and facts are very high. The above is to better use Linked data to make this information much more usable in Wikidata/Wikipedia and also start learning this research community what benefits Linked data can give

What is the ultimate impact of this project?

Trusted linked data that is reusable for museums, researcher and Wikipedia readers related to female history

Could it scale?

Yes the main benefits is getting rid of knowledge SILOS and prove how Wikidata can be an enabler that the research community could use to take the step in direction Linked data

Why are you the people to do it?

I am a Wikidata person stat Salgo60 and has matched more external sources and I feel SKBL has a good potential and need to start learn Linked data.... and the potential delivering Linked data for the benefits of research and also support more languages. Today they support English/Swedish articles...

Example what I have done in the Wikidata area:

  • New Nobelprize link modell T248939
  • Europeana graph/240290
  • Swedish Church parishes in Wikidata GITHUB
  • and about 10 more external properties

.....

What is the impact of your idea on diversity and inclusiveness of the Wikimedia movement?

Already today we have SKBL being part of Women in Red see WikiProject_Women_in_Red/Missing_articles_by_dictionary/BDSW

I guess adding locations, schools, events as Linked data will make research much easier and we will get a better coverage of objects in Wikidata related to female history using a trusted source

What are the challenges associated with this project and how you will overcome them?

Get an understanding of Linked data from SKBL and maybe in next phase start using a Knowledgegraph db like Wikibase

How much money are you requesting?

Start 10 000 dollar that is spent on resources from SKBL to make it easier for them to move in this direction Linked data

How will you spend the money?

Depends on the SKBL people.... If we get a "letter of intent" from you I will speak with Maria Sjögren the project manager how we progress https://www.gu.se/en/about/find-staff/mariasjoberg

I will do a short speak this week when they have a editorial meeting

How long will your project take?

10 months

Have you worked on projects for previous grants before?

No

I stopped doing paid work in 2012 at age 52 and was before that a consultant working with International banking transactions see Linkedin

Since 2016 been doing Wikidata stuff... My idea is if we get a grant that will help the SKBL to get resources learning more about Linked data that will benefit all Women research in Sweden and hopefully outside Sweden
