What is your idea?
The idea of this project is to improve the quality, credibility, and reliability of Wikipedia articles with high-quality photos. More information on the project idea can be found on the project page on meta (see:https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos)
Why is it important?
This project is important for the following reasons;
- It aims to promote the quality, reliability, and credibility of Wikipedia articles.
- To promote the use of photos hosted on Wikimedia Commons
- To attract and connect our readers to Wikipedia articles
- To engage existing volunteers
Is your project already in progress?
This project will run from 1st July - 30th August 2020 (https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos)
How is it relevant to credibility and Wikipedia? (max 500 words)
The project is important because we believe that access to credible and reliable information is a fundamental human right. Information in any form (text, audio & visual) should be accurate, reliable and credible. Millions of articles have been created by thousands of volunteers across the globe yet relatively few of these articles have photos. We believe that a lack of photos impacts the credibility and quality of these articles.
- Photos on an article express the information in ways the texts cannot and this impact on the article's credibility.
- Photo in the article attracts attention as articles with photos are likely to be read than and considered credible.
- Photos on articles may increase viewership level and connect our readers to Wikipedia articles
What is the ultimate impact of this project?
The ultimate impact of this project is to improve the quality, reliability, and credibility of Wikipedia articles. At least, 1000+ articles would be improved with photos
Could it scale?
Yes. It could be scaled
Why are you the people to do it?
We are the people do do it because we have the relevant experience and skills to achieve the set goal
What is the impact of your idea on diversity and inclusiveness of the Wikimedia movement?
We planned to reach over 300 languages Wikipedia community and engage the community members and work with all interested affiliates and local communities (Chapters & User Groups) within the Wikimedia movement. This diversity is one of the most interesting part of this project
What are the challenges associated with this project and how you will overcome them?
