Title:

How can Africa and North America partner to promote the goals of the Foundation

Theme:

Recent Changes, Technology

Type of session:

Lecture

Abstract:

This session will give an overview of the work that is underway to develop a strategy for MediaWiki and present the product roadmap for the upcoming months.

  • How do we envision the future of MediaWiki as the essential platform for the Wikimedia projects and as an open source project?
  • What are the key challenges and opportunities?
  • How can we grow the number of people who contribute to the software?
  • How can we increase the sustainability of the platform; better serve our key workflows and needs; and provide easier, faster and cohesive paths to feature development?
  • What does effective and responsible stewardship look like?

These and other questions shape the path to explore the future direction for MediaWiki. A highlight of this session will be looking into the key themes that arose from early interviews with a cross-section of people.
