What is WikiConference North America?

The WikiConference North America 2023 is the tenth annual gathering of wikimedists, institutions and professionals from across North America, including Canada, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean.

An unconference day for attendees to design their own schedule and engage with each other around common interests, followed by a weekend feature both academic and casual presentations on Wikimedia-related outreach activities, workshops to improve the skills of grassroots organizers, and Wikimedia movement in North America, as well as related topics of free culture and digital rights.

The location will be announced soon and will take place in Toronto, Ontario from November 10-12, 2023.

History

WikiConference North America User Group was formed in 2016 after that year's conference. It is a recognized Affiliate by the Wikimedia Foundation. The purpose of the User Group is to assure that the experiences gained at one conference are shared with future year conference organizers. The mission of the User Group includes coordinating the planning and hosting of events under our purview.

Additionally, the User Group documents best practices and shares lessons learned with other Wikimedia communities planning and hosting conferences and similar events. In 2020, 2021 and 2022 WikiConference North America were online.
